Emerald ash borer, hemlock woolly adelgid and browntail moth are killing trees across York and Cumberland counties. Tree Medics diagnoses the problem and treats it with science-based programs, before it's too late.

Tree Medics is Southern Maine's tree health specialist. We help homeowners, businesses and municipalities protect their landscapes from invasive insects, disease and environmental stress, and our goal is simple: save trees whenever possible and help them thrive for generations.

Many treatments only work in a narrow window. Here's when we typically do what.
General guide only. Exact timing depends on weather, treatment and site conditions.
Tree Medics was founded by Registered Maine Guide Erik Hanson to protect the trees that define our landscapes. Every property and every tree is different, so we take the time to evaluate each one and recommend the most effective course of action, whether that's a treasured backyard ash, a stand of hemlocks or an invasive takeover.

Often, yes, if it is treated while the canopy is still mostly healthy. Trunk injections protect the tree from the inside. Once an ash has lost a large share of its canopy, treatment is much less likely to work, which is why an early assessment matters.
The trunk injections commonly used against emerald ash borer typically protect a tree for about two years, so protection is kept up on a regular cycle for as long as the beetle is active in the area.
The best window is fall through early spring (roughly October to March), when the caterpillars are sheltering in their winter webs. Removing and destroying those webs before spring cuts down on the rash-causing hairs later in the year.
Injection places the treatment directly into the tree’s vascular system instead of spraying it into the air, which limits drift onto neighboring plants, water and people. It is often the preferred option near wells, water and play areas.
